Milfoil was found on Balch Lake in 2002. This weed can grow in 12- to 15-foot deep water, which includes most of the shoreline of our lake. If milfoil gets out of control, we will lose boating, swimming, and fishing along our shorelines; we will be cutting a path through the milfoil to get to deeper water.
I encourage all property owners to become familiar with milfoil, and know what to do if you find any. Read the information on this web site, and volunteer whenever you can to help us fight it. BLIMP will continue to work with the state agencies and local communities to obtain funding, but we are one of many lakes seeking financial help from government. The property owners on Balch must join in to keep milfoil under control. Milfoil will not go away.
Thank you for helping where you can.
